Adenieke Lewis-Gibbs

Graduated from Senator O’Connor in 2016. She’s always loved writing, so Carleton University’s Journalism program was an obvious choice for her. She couldn’t stop there, though. She is currently pursuing a Combined Honours for Journalism and French and she couldn’t be happier with her choice. Adenieke has been in the French Immersion program since senior kindergarten and maintaining her French through university was very important for her. Adenieke used her AP French credit towards her degree. Adenieke thinks the nation’s capital, Ottawa, is the perfect place to practice French and study journalism.

Since university, Adenieke has held jobs in various departments and fields. She works two leadership roles in the university’s housing department – a student mentor and a peer conduct board member and soon she’ll be the board’s chair. She’s worked with her school’s Student Experience Officer in both a volunteer role and as the activity board’s director of design. As a CAB design director, Adenieke found an interest in visual media and developed skills in software she’s familiar with like Canva and Adobe Photoshop, as well as gained skills designing with Adobe Illustrator. She looks forward to weeknights when she tutors elementary students in French.

Keeping with her degree, Adenieke writes for the school newspaper, The Charlatan, and online site Her Campus. In the 2019-2020 school year, Adenieke be working even more closely with the Her Campus chapter as the Carleton chapter marketing director Other ways Adenieke gets involved at school are with the Catholic Christian Outreach group, Campus to Community volunteering, volunteer note-taking for the Paul Menton Centre, volunteering on Alternative Spring Break, and acting as a student representative for the cyclical program review for the French degree program. Getting involved at on- and off-campus has allowed Adenieke to develop new skills unrelated to her undergraduate degree and has opened doors for her future career path.
